- Laminate flooring is basically a high-definition photograph of wood glued to high-density fiberboard (HDF). Unlike Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP), standard laminate will swell and warp if exposed to standing water.
- The thickness of the plank dictates how it sounds when you walk on it. Thin 8mm planks sound "clicky" and hollow. 12mm planks sound and feel much closer to real hardwood.
- Laminate must have an "underlayment" foam pad installed beneath it, or the planks will rattle against the subfloor. Some premium planks have the pad pre-attached to the back.
