- Foam boards are usually sold in 4x8 ft sheets (32 sq ft per sheet).
- EPS (white bead board) is the cheapest but absorbs water over time. XPS (pink/blue board) is water resistant and standard for basements. Polyiso (foil faced) has the highest R-value but loses effectiveness in freezing temperatures, so it's mostly used for roofing, not basements.
- Simply pushing foam boards together is not enough. You must seal the seams with specialized foil tape and fill large gaps with canned spray foam (like Great Stuff) to create a true vapor barrier.
